Why Doctor’s cannot cure you?

April 9, 2009 · Leave a Comment

No Cure pillsIf the title made you think otherwise, let me make it very clear – This is NOT an article about God or strength of Prayer and sorts. You can stop reading if that is what you were looking for. Others read on…

I had first heard this notion from Chris Tucker during one of his comedy routines. And I thought to myself – Isn’t this true?  Okay, let me explain and you spend some time thinking about what you just read.

Doctor’s are professionals alright. They practice medicine but a majority of them are no firefighters. What I mean by firefighters is that they are not selfless heroes. After an expensive college education in Medicine, Doctors are motivated by Profit. The need to make money. I am not talking about the minority exceptions. There are a number of them who join NGOs, Red Cross and so on striving to help the unfortunate in war-stricken and ultra-poor zones of the earth.

But the majority of Doctors are in it for money. Now let is look at it in perspective. Pharmaceutical companies rely heavily on doctors for their revenues. Doctors make money by prescribing these medicines that pharmas make. In a way they are co-dependent. What happens if a Pharma company makes a medicine that can actually cure a particular disease? Not treat, I mean CURE a disease completely so that it cannot recur ever. The patient who is cured will now need not come back to the doctor. The patient need not take the medicines anymore. This means the Doctor and the Pharma company have now lost one source of revenue. True that more patients will rush to the doctor and seek the elixir, but that will subside after most of the diseased is cured once and for all. There is no recurring income. A Doctor or the Pharma have no benfit in developing or prescribing such a miracle medicine.

Now let us say that a Doctor successfully treats you for Blood Pressure or Diabetes. He prescribes you some medicines. You now need to take these medicines for life in order to remain healthy. You need to revisit the doctor for regular check ups and you will due to fear of recurrence of the HIGHLY DANGEROUS disease you may have. This keeps both the doctors and the pharma companies, happy. They get recurring income.

When was the last time a major, serious disease after Small Pox (Polio to an extent) was CURED and ERADICATED. The only reason there are successful medicines against Chicken Pox and Jaundice perhaps is because they are not generally recurring types as body develops self-immunity.

If you notice, most of the medicines available are treatments. Most of the treatments are just that and not cures. A treatment is more profitable than a Cure and that is why Doctor’s cannot cure you of anything.

I am a Bitches Man!

August 14, 2008 · 3 Comments

** Links in the post open in a new window

I realized this when I was listening to George Carlin – How’s your dog? from his 1976 album ‘On the road’. Yes I am a Dog’s man. A Ladies man; may be…but a Dog’s/Bitches man; for sure.

I have always loved dogs. And I seem to get along very well with them. We have always treated each other with respect. My cousins have been bitten in their childhood, but fortunately I managed to avoid those teeth on my bum! I never figured out how dogs seemed to accept me so easily. I did try to theorize though.

My logic was that since I hate cats and I am allergic to them, I figured dogs could sense my disliking for their greatest foe. And so they assumed I was on their side in their war for world domination (Remember the Cats & Dogs movie!) I have been clawed and bitten by cats and I know for sure that the cats sense my lack of liking towards them. But not dogs…dogs are so happy to see me. I never had a pet dog all my life. I hope I will some day get one but after I learn to take care of myself.

Yet they love me so much that when I go to a friend’s place to meet a new dog, they go wild with excitement. They wag their tails as if they were trying to fly like a helicopter. They jump around and don’t have the weirdest idea what to do next! The dogs tend to lose their senses around me. I wish I could evoke the same reaction in all the women I meet. Works on some I must say :)

The owners tend to get flustered and embarrassed. And they keep repeating that their dog never acted like this with anyone except for one odd family member or so. Then they would look adoringly at the dog, who by now has kept it’s head on my lap and looking at me all dovey eyed; and proclaim that the dog loves me already.

After such intimate encounters, I stared to see a pattern. It was the bitches (female dogs to the polished ears), that acted in a peculiar way. The moment they used to see me, they would show all the excitement and then start showing their Bum to me. Yes…they jump, wag, lick, run, sit, stand and what not and then turn around and show their bum to me. This is the part where it gets embarrassing for the owner and everyone tries to ignore the bitch just like one tries hard to ignore a small kid walking across the room naked. Of course, it is very difficult to ignore too since the dog like the naked kids tend to be not so quiet. The owners start wondering if the bitch is in heat. And I noticed this phenomenon not with just one breed but across different breeds including Pomeranian, Labradors, dobermans, the street bitches…all of them.

At first I thought they must be really high or something. You know high on hormones or even grass. Then I thought I might be releasing some dog like pheromones which made me smell like a potential mate. I had some real nightmares trying to understand this weird phenomenon. So I decided to look it up on the internet. I did not find many references. But on Yahoo! Answers I came across the same question – Why does my dog show its bum to me?

I read and then understood that it seems it is the way a dog shows its submission. The dog is accepting my dominance over her and wants to show that she trusts me. Its her way of accepting me into her life…by showing her bum to me. Now I feel so happy. I look back fondly at all the Bitches who showed their bums to me. I am not embarrassed anymore. I now know they love me, they trust me, they accept me…I know now that I am a Bitches Man!

The Worlds First Programmers…

July 23, 2007 · 5 Comments

Parchment_code I was having one of those random conversations with one of my friends, to whom I am grateful for exercising restraint and not punching my face in. These conversations are more of a ignition that sparks the creative juices…whatever that means (I read about such juices in some book). Now coming back to the topic…our conversation led us to a theory (one of the many Nair Theories)…that keeps coming back to me. So here goes…

Ages ago when there was no religion or rather no organized approach to go to heaven or hell, it was more about respecting the nature and the provider. This is more on the lines of Paganism. People worshiped the nature, Gaia, etc. So a group of people then realized that people were doing what they felt was right, with no sense or purpose. This was not going to be acceptable as the community grew, conflicts were a way of life. So they decided to lay down some rules. Some rules that will give the people a direction, a purpose. Anyways any reason that propelled them was good enough to lay down some rules. But of course these people had to be influential to make a difference. Or at least influence others to listen to them and follow them. These bunch of people were the ‘World’s first Programmers‘.

They programmed people to follow certain rules. But why would people listen to them. FEAR! Humans are perennially afraid of what they don’t know or can’t understand. We didn’t know about fire, but in order to make fire a part of our daily life we needed to first understand it. Understanding helped us overcome or deal with fear then and it continues to do so. So the programmers decided to eliminate anyone who questioned or tried to spread their own wisdom. These programmers had to write their codes in such a way that doubting minds were shunted out or silenced by the majority.

The people who questioned were considered viruses or bugs and taken care of accordingly (example Socrates). Time and again they needed newer versions of the software so that it worked. Poor Jesus did not even know that he will end up making a new religion and an all powerful church with rigid rules and weird illogical beliefs which paint god as a man who believes in taking revenge. Our gods are filled with vengeance and human like interests so he okayed the creation of a private torture chamber called Hell…well that is just for starters…the rest of the religious logics are just as loony!

Anyways…this is not about god but actually more of a tribute to those first ‘human’ programmers of the world who revolutionized mankind the way software programmers did eras later with their computers and technology.

The early programmers did a lot of good too. For example: Many parts of the world solar eclipses are considered inauspicious and people are asked by religious scriptures to stay indoors to avoid harmful effects. Usually these effects are glorified to induce a lot of fear. But what I feel is the early programmers realized that solar eclipses can cause blindness when looked straight into with naked eyes. Since humans are dumb and will do what they are not supposed to, they programmed fear of the unknown through religious fine-tuning to keep them indoors. They also added some purification rituals to be done after the passing of eclipse for good measure. So that kept the people indoors. There are many such instances that tell us how smart were these ‘human’ programmers of the yesteryears. But these were more of the open source doing-good kind of programmers who did this kind of philanthropy.

Unfortunately most of the programmers were and even today are more of Religious Architects who design the fundamentals of a religion which is more of an Operating System for humans. Their fundamental objective is to uphold the powers vested with them as supreme programmers of mankind. If you thought they have become obsolete in modern times, well then think again. They are as strong as ever and can be found all over the world doing what they know best…human programming through the most reliable and unquestionably the best software program in the world – FEAR! The mode of distribution is much better than the internet and more widespread. Churches, Clergy, Imans, mosques, temples, priests, etc; who use their own protocols to spread their proprietary codes by exploiting the vulnerabilities that exist in humans.

So sit back and think of our way of life. The programmed way of life of our ancestors – the blind faith, unquestioned belief in their respective OS (religion). Its so easy to sit back and accept the instructions because it gives us a feeling of coziness and security. But when you start asking questions, questioning your faith, your beliefs, you will notice the small changes in the program around you. The way people react, the way you are silenced or ostracized, everything against you is so organized all of a sudden – like it was pre-programmed to take care of such issues. Well I think, you should go back and watch ‘The Matrix’ to reinforce the underlying thought of this post…meanwhile let me think out of the ‘box’ to come up with more questions.

Ways to get Free Food

May 14, 2007 · 1 Comment

Its a very simple and probably well-practiced theory. Take a look at my 13 steps to free-food:

  1. Make a list of all your friends.
  2. Mark their birthdays on the calender with a name corresponding the dates.
  3. See how many friends have you got.
  4. You should then target each month.
  5. Spend hours on Orkut and other community websites (I prefer Orkut)
  6. Your aim should be to make a friend for each day of the month, say February (its a good start..shorter month)
  7. Try to keep the circle within the town or city you live in currently though an extended circle is also fine at a later stage. Ideally try to befriend someone from a city you are most likely to visit.
  8. Once you are done with that month move on to the next. It will take time but its worth it.
  9. The objective is to make a friend for each day of the year (birthday of the year).
  10. Repetitions are acceptable. Multiple birthdays on a single date are fine. (I will explain that in a few mins).
  11. Ensure that the you have a good reminder service. Orkut is just fine.
  12. Make sure that you wish these friends and surprise them on their birthdays and days prior to that.
  13. Usually the invitations for a treat are given out prior to the date and not on the day.Make yourself seen and get yourself invited. Modesty is not the best resort here.

Well there you have it…Free food…Throughout the year…You cannot go hungry.

You will take sometime to tweak this to perfection. The repetitions are going to be extremely helpful since some of your friends might not be in town or some may be miserly enough to sneak out of a treat (that happens often). Also make sure you might want to give a treat once in a while though ideally you might want to lay low on the radar to avoid over-spending your meager budget.

Besides the birthdays you will also be invited to the weddings and receptions and other important occasions of your friends life. These are the fringe benefits of all the efforts you took. Accept these as a bonus.

I am still making the calender…for those who feel this as a cheap way to eat food…I cannot agree more…it definitely is and cannot be practiced by the weak hearted. You need to be think-skinned and very determined to achieve this.

Others who are motivated by this…please make sure you share your calender with me.

Will you lie with me?… (Part One)

March 28, 2007 · Leave a Comment

This is first of the multi-part series on the topic of the Art of Lying.

“Lying is universal–we _all_ do it. Therefore, the wise thing is for us diligently to train ourselves to lie thoughtfully, judiciously; to lie with a good object, and not an evil one; to lie for others’ advantage, and not our own; to lie healingly, charitably, humanely, not cruelly, hurtfully, maliciously; to lie gracefully and graciously, not awkwardly and clumsily; to lie firmly, frankly, squarely, with head erect, not haltingly, tortuously, with pusillanimous mien, as being ashamed of our high calling. Then shall we be rid of the rank and pestilent truth that is rotting the land; then shall we be great and good and beautiful, and worthy dwellers in a world where even benign Nature habitually lies, except when she promises execrable weather.”

This is an excerpt from my essay on lying: ‘On the Decay of the Art of Lying’ …I know it is an excellent piece of work and that is why I do not mind lying, that I wrote the essay. I am sure Sir Mark Twain would never mind my indulgence…for it is a noble cause and I intend no profit from it…but for winning some hearts and accolades.

Lying is an amazing art and an enigma that thrives amongst us and gives us hope, dreams, motivation and enthusiasm to take us through yet another day. We love to hate lies and yet lie when we have to. I come across so many of my friends and acquaintances who I know lie…not that I am absolving myself from lying…they lie and I listen. I listen with rapt attention and catch every word of their obvious lie…not to laugh at it…but to give that person or friend the satisfaction of living that dream, desire through me.

When someone noble lies to me, I don’t scoff off that person nor am I judgmental about the character of that person. You are lying to yourself if you claim you do not lie or you detest liars. You love your parents or your best friend or spouse or yourself and you can’t possibly detest everyone.Everyone whom you know (more…)

The beauty of see-(de)duction…Sonnet 116 through Ilium

January 31, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.
Love’s not Time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle’s compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

The Sonnet has been beautifully interpreted in “Ilium” by Dan Simmons. A character of Simmons by the name Mahnmut who is a resident of Mars is a
Shakespheare scholar and he tries to intepret the true meaning of this Sonnet by the great playwright.

Here is an excerpt:
“Mahnmut suddenly saw where it fit. Like so many great poets, Shakespheare began his poems before or after they began. But if this was a poem of refutation, what was it refuting? What had the youth said to the older, love-besotted poet that needed such vehement refutation? (more…)
